Beauty and the Beast – Film Review

The stories you have seen about the direction of the live-action screenplay of Beauty and the Beast, while some show how great this film is, others turn it into negativity.

I would like to start off by stating that this film was FANTASTIC. Yes, it followed the Disney animated film that was released in 1991, but Bill Condon, who directed the 2017 live-action film, put his own spin on the film.

Through the skepticism I had of this film, mainly because of the uproar on the question of a character’s sexuality. Let me tell you here: if you are boycotting the film for this reason, take it from me that this piece of the film is not thrown into the viewers face. I was concerned that this would take away from the story-line of the animated movie. It didn’t.

The new songs in this film are beautiful. One that really sticks out to me is “Evermore,” which is sung by the Beast (I have the song linked below in a YouTube video). The original songs are also fantastic.

How great of a film you ask? Enough that I would see this like 10 times before the film is even released on DVD/Blu-Ray. It’s that good.

Emma Watson did a fantastic portrayal of Belle, with incorporating her own sense of style to the character. Dan Stevens, who you don’t really get to see until the end of the film, was fantastic as Beast. Let’s not forget Josh Gad and Luke Evans- their acting chemistry was wonderful playing LeFou and Gaston.

Basic Critic Score: 5/5
